ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Familiar with and utilize OSP Engineering Guidelines, Policy Directives, and planning documents, to create or review field notes (self prepared or other) and multiple databases for specific estimates, routine work orders and/or other-defined projects for growth, relief, customer demand, and damaged plant in the FTTP outside plant network.
  • During physical field visits, individual must be able to identify/recognize incorrect or unsafe conditions (e.g. missing anchor/guy) and design proper corrective plant configurations.
  • Track and monitor other departments, which may include contractors, to assure timely completion of the engineering work orders.
  • Use the most economically cost effective methods and interface with multiple databases including BDMS, Remedy/ASSIST, LFACS, vBuild, iVapp, Microsoft WORD, EXCEL, and POWERPOINT to ensure timely and satisfactory design and completion of provisioning issues.
  • Utilize computer assisted drafting tools such as MicroStation Telco, MicroStation ICGS/IDDS Ver 8 (Verizon West), ICGS/IDDS Ver 7 (Verizon East), and Visio, where available to design or QC engineering work orders.
  • Utilize evolving technologies including Fiber, FTTP, FiOS and future developments.
  • Negotiate, coordinate and communicate outside plant engineering matters, including permit applications and rights of way, with Verizon field forces, private owners, customers, building contractors, utilities and government agencies.
  • Researching rights of way, deed, and property information, as well as related information in courthouses, libraries, and other locations.
  • May be required to spend the day in outdoor activities, traverse rough terrain on foot, carry range rods, drive stakes, and occasional use a brush axe in rural areas.
  • May be required to enter Controlled Environmental Vaults (CEV'S), Manholes and Cable Vaults, construction sites, and potentially dangerous industrial areas.
  • Part or all of the day may be spent in an office environment.
  • Schedule or participate in site survey walkouts of apartment complexes or Multi-Dwelling Units (MDU) and small businesses or Multi-Tenant Units (MTU), analyze possible FTTP designs, and provide High level and Detail level surveys, stickmaps and Detailed Engineering Designs for construction of the Fiber plant and associated FiOS equipment. Closely manage and QC all projects from start to finish.  

Qualifications

 

  • 3 years field experience in an MDU telecommunications environment.
  • Computer literate in all listed applications.
  • Must be subject matter expert with ICGS/IDDS Ver 7 and 8
  • Must be familiar with BDMS, vBuild, Adobe, and Visio.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

General office and residential lodging environment; No special physical demands required. Some lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds required.
